1. Pre- listening activity: Speaking – In pairs – 5 minutes.


Given the title and the pictures below, what do you think the story will be about? Discuss in pairs:





       2. While- listening activity: Individually + In pairs – 25 minutes. 

Listen to the Podcast "Fear of losing" and answer the questions below. After that, compare your findings with your partner. The podcast will be played twice.
a)         What important announcement did Jessika make to Sue?
b)        Why is Sue sceptical about Jessika’s proposal?
c)         Does Sue practice any sports? If the answer is yes, which ones does she practice?
d)        Why is Sue afraid of losing?
e)         What happened during the relay competition?
f)         Did Sue decide to quit the match?
g)        Did Sue succeed to avoid playing?
h)        How would you describe Sue’s experience of playing the football tournament?
i)          Did Sue finally overcome her fear?

3. Post-listening activity: Speaking – 10 minutes.

Answer the following questions in pairs:
a)        What is your biggest fear?
b)        What are things most people are afraid of?
c)        What is the most frightening experience you have ever had?
d)       What can you do to overcome your fears?

4.   Post-listening activity: Writing – 20 minutes.

One of your best friends is afraid of speaking in public. This fear is having severe adverse consequences for his/her school results. You understand that he/she is facing a hard time and you want to be helpful. Write a letter to encourage him/her to overcome his/her fear, giving some pieces of advice (100-150 words).
